Foreign investors raised stakes in 84 BSE companies in the June quarter, according to the shareholding data released till July 15 They include HDFC, HUL, SBI, ONGC, Coal India, NTPC, Bajaj Finserv, IOC, Power Grid, SBI Life Insurance, NMDC, Muthoot Finance, Corporation Bank and Aarti Industries, among others.
FII net investment in India was more than Rs 10,000 crore in June quarter. They invested net Rs 2,272.74 crore in equities and Rs 8,111.80 crore in the debt segment
The recent volatility in the stock market hasn’t deterred new investors from trying their luck in equities. In the one year ended June 30, a good 41 lakh investors opened demat accounts with the depositories, taking the total number of stock market investors in the country to 3.65 crore. This is the highest number of demat accounts added in a year since 2011 when market regulator the Securities & Exchange Board of India (Sebi) started disclosing the data The total number of accounts has increased by nearly half in a span of four years, indicating the growing preference for equities among investors. The markets added 35 lakh and 25 lakh investors in the previous two years, data showed.

US markets ended in a flat note: Dow +7 whereas Nasdaq was -12. US New home sales fell by 6.9% and US-China trade uncertainties dragged down the indices there. Here Nifty may be in the range of 11300 to 11400 and only a decisive break of either side on closing basis will set further trend towards that side. Its time to get some Nifty hedge in place as we do not know when would FIIs slow down their aggressive buying. Yesterday also they had bought Rs 1483 cr worth of shares net in cash segment. Last two days we saw advance decline ratio in favour of bears and today also if its so, we may assume that bulls are getting tired and some profit booking cannot be ruled out.
